Gum Disease
When you have problems with your gums, sometimes you won't realize it until they begin bleeding. Gum disease (or periodontal disease) is a slow, gradual process that is caused by a lack of proper oral hygiene (flossing and brushing). When there is a buildup of plaque on your teeth, that plaque can begin irritating the gums, causing them to swell. When this happens, your gums will begin to become sensitive to the touch and may bleed when brushed. This is a sign you need to come into our clinic as soon as possible before the problem gets any worse.
Untreated gum disease can lead to a number of oral health complications such as gum recession, tooth loss, and bone loss. More serious health concerns can be caused if the issue is not treated in a timing manner.
